President Xi Jinping Meets with President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa of Mongolia
On the afternoon of August 31 local time, President Xi Jinping met with President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa of Mongolia on the sidelines of the 2026 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Bishkek.
President Xi Jinping noted that China and Mongolia are close neighbors connected by mountains and rivers, and that living peacefully together, supporting each other and pursuing win-win cooperation have always been the mainstream and defining features of the bilateral relations. China will continue to put China-Mongolia relations at an important position in its diplomacy with neighboring countries, and work with Mongolia to consolidate strategic mutual trust, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, further strengthen the bonds between the two peoples, inject more vitality into the comprehensive strategic partnership, and advance the building of the China-Mongolia community with a shared future.
President Xi Jinping stressed that the two sides should strengthen the political foundation of the bilateral relations, respect each other’s national independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and respect each other’s core interests and major concerns. China stands ready to work with Mongolia to foster greater synergy between their development strategies, advance cooperation in traditional areas such as trade, connectivity, energy, and minerals, explore cooperation potential in emerging areas such as green minerals, AI, and the digital economy, foster more sources of growth for mutually beneficial cooperation, and stride forward together on their paths toward modernization. China hopes that the Mongolian side will effectively protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies. The two sides should also strengthen coordination and collaboration on multilateral occasions to respond to global challenges together.
President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa said that Mongolia and China are friendly neighbors and, in an ever-changing world, have consistently respected and trusted each other and remained a good neighbor to each other. China’s development offers great opportunities to its neighboring countries and adds impetus to development in Asia and around the world. Deepening friendship and cooperation with China is a key priority in Mongolia’s diplomacy. Mongolia will continue to work with China to deepen political mutual trust, develop closer cooperation in areas such as trade and investment, industry, agriculture, mining, and green economy, and take the bilateral relations to new heights. The Mongolian side is firmly committed to the one-China principle. Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory. Issues related to Xinjiang, Xizang, and Hong Kong are China’s internal affairs. The four major global initiatives and the vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity set out by President Xi Jinping bear great significance to upholding world peace and security, promoting sustainable development, and tackling global challenges. Mongolia will join efforts with China in their implementation.
